Info: According to the company’s own history, brothers Ken and Fred ALEXANDER founded it in Orange County, California, initially serving the real estate and lending industries. Its first product was The Loan Arranger, an easy-to-use calculator for loan amortization calculations. From the outset, CI’s approach was to design calculators around the practical needs of a particular profession. A useful contemporary source is Architectural Record, June 1979. It describes the Loan Arranger II as an inexpensive calculator for businesspeople who needed to calculate payments. It was intended to replace charts, calculation factors, and amortization books, reducing the time spent looking up information. The supplier was listed as CALCULATED INDUSTRIES, Inc., Newport Beach, California. This confirms that the second version was available before the decade ended. For collectors, the connection with SANTRON is particularly interesting. CI’s early historical significance lies in its focus on calculators tailored to specific professions. Its better-known construction calculators came later.
